Some microorganisms found in soil are beneficial for plant growth. These beneficial microorganisms are cultured in pure form and then multiplied, and then applied to the soil like fertilizer or attached to seeds. They are also called microbial fertilizers. A typical example is the rhizobia found in legume crops. These bacteria live symbiotically in the roots of legume plants such as soybeans, fixing nitrogen from the air and converting it to ammonia, which can then be used by plants. They are used by sprinkling them on soybean and other seeds. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
