A Trojan hero in Greek and Roman legend. His Greek name was Aineias or Aineas. He was the son of Anchises and the goddess Aphrodite. He was the bravest general after Hector. He escaped the fall of Troy with his father Anchises and son Ascanius, and traveled around the Greek mainland, establishing capitals in various states and building temples to Aphrodite. He fell in love with Queen Dido in Carthage, but entered Rome by divine command, pacified the tribes of the four continents, became king of Rome, and built the foundations of the country. His descendant was called Romulus, and the story of the founding of the country is sung in Virgil's great epic poem, the Aeneid. → Related articles Aphrodite | Sibyl Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
