Konsei Pass

This pass is located on the border between Nikko City, Tochigi Prefecture and Katashina Village, Tone County, Gunma Prefecture, at the saddle between Onsen-ga-take and Kinsei-san. It is 2,024 meters above sea level. A Kinseisha shrine is enshrined at the pass, and a hiking trail leads from Kinsei-san to Shirane-san. The 755-meter-long Kinsei Tunnel runs under the pass, and the 8.14-kilometer Kinsei Road, which connects Nikko Yumoto and Sugenuma, was opened in 1965, allowing automobile traffic on the entire National Route 120 between Nikko and Numata. However, it is closed in winter due to snow.

栃木県日光市と群馬県利根(とね)郡片品村(かたしなむら)との境、温泉(ゆせん)ヶ岳と金精山との鞍部(あんぶ)の峠。標高2024メートル。峠に金精神社が祀(まつ)られており、金精山から白根(しらね)山への登山路などが通じている。峠の下を長さ755メートルの金精トンネルがうがたれ、日光湯元(ゆもと)と菅(すげ)沼を結ぶ8.14キロメートルの金精道路が1965年（昭和40）に開通し、日光―沼田間の国道120号全線の自動車交通が可能となった。しかし、冬は雪のため閉鎖する。
