Concord (English spelling)
The capital of New Hampshire, USA. Located near the center of the southern part of the state along the Merrimack River. Granted by the Massachusetts Bay Colony as Penacook Farm in 1725, it was settled in 1727 and became the city of Rumford in Massachusetts in 1733. In 1765 it was incorporated into New Hampshire and became Concord. In the early 19th century, printing, carriage manufacturing, and granite production were industries there, but they declined in the middle, and in the later years railroads, carriage repair, and silverware manufacturing flourished. In recent years, electronics, electrical appliances, leather products, woodworking, and textiles have become major industries. Population 36,006 (1990).

A town in eastern Massachusetts, USA. It is a satellite city of Boston, located about 28 km northwest of Boston on the banks of the Concord River. It is known as the site of the Battle of Lexington and Concord in 1775, which marked the beginning of the American War of Independence. Today, there are factories producing precision machinery, furniture, and metal castings, and dairy farms and grapes are also grown here. N. Hawthorne, R. Emerson, and the father and daughter Alcott once lived here, and it has been called a cultural city. Population 17,076 (1990).

By the 1850s, gold production had declined, but the city had become a center of the textile industry, especially the manufacture of various cotton fabrics and sewn products, and the livestock industry. Population 27,347 (1990).
