Alain-Fournier

1886‐1914
French novelist. His real name was Henri Alban Fournier. He is the author of Le Grand Meaulnes, which was serialized in the magazine NRF in 1913 and published immediately after. This novel depicts the inner adventures of adolescents in a fantastical world where dreams and reality are mixed, and was greeted as a completely new novel that stood in opposition to the realistic novels that had been written up until then, and had a great influence on the younger generation of writers thereafter. However, before he could complete his second work, he went off to fight in World War I and was killed in action in September 1914.

フランスの小説家。本名はHenri Alban Fournier。1913年《NRF（エヌエルエフ）》誌に連載されたのち直ちに刊行された《モーヌの大将Le Grand Meaulnes》の作者。この小説は夢と現実の混淆した幻想的世界における青春の内的冒険を描きだし，これまでの写実的な小説と対立するまったく新しい小説として迎えられ，以後若い世代の作家たちに大きな影響をあたえた。しかし第2作を完成する間もなく，第1次世界大戦に出征して，14年9月戦死した。
