English poet and critic. He published the fantastical narrative poem The Rime of the Ancient Mariner in Lyric Songs (1798), co-authored with his friend Wordsworth, and together with masterpieces such as Kubla Khan and Christabel, he created a new horror that represents the Romantic period. He also holds a key position in the history of criticism with his Literary Life (1817) and his essays on Shakespeare. His essay on Hamlet is particularly famous.

英国の詩人，批評家。友人ワーズワースとの共著《抒情歌謡集》（1798年）に幻想的物語詩《老水夫行》を発表，《クブラ・カーン》《クリスタベル》などの名作とともに，ロマン派を代表する新しい戦慄(せんりつ)を創造した。また《文学評伝》（1817年）やシェークスピア論によって批評史上の枢要な位置を占める。特にハムレット論は有名。
