A former town in Shuso County in northeastern Ehime Prefecture. The city center was the castle town of the Ichiyanagi clan, and remains of samurai residences remain to this day. The Yosan Line runs through the town, and it is the main trailhead for Mt. Ishizuchi. Koen-ji Temple, the 61st temple of the 88 Shikoku temples, is famous for its Koyasu Kannon. The area is home to Atago persimmons, and mandarin orange cultivation is also thriving. In November 2004, it was incorporated into Toyo City, Tanbara Town in Shuso County, and Saijo City. 76.26 km2 . 愛媛県北東部，周桑(しゅうそう)郡の旧町。中心市街は一柳氏の城下町で，今も武家屋敷の跡が残る。予讃線が通じ，石鎚山の表登山口。四国八十八ヵ所61番札所香園寺は子安観音として有名。一帯は愛宕ガキの本場で，ミカン栽培も盛ん。2004年11月東予市，周桑郡丹原町と西条市へ編入。76.26km2。１万81人（2003）。
