A former town in Shuso County in northeastern Ehime Prefecture. The city center was the castle town of the Ichiyanagi clan, and remains of samurai residences remain to this day. The Yosan Line runs through the town, and it is the main trailhead for Mt. Ishizuchi. Koen-ji Temple, the 61st temple of the 88 Shikoku temples, is famous for its Koyasu Kannon. The area is home to Atago persimmons, and mandarin orange cultivation is also thriving. In November 2004, it was incorporated into Toyo City, Tanbara Town in Shuso County, and Saijo City. 76.26 km2 .
