In 1915 (Taisho 4), he obtained a doctorate in engineering. In 1918, he became the director of the Temporary Nitrogen Research Institute (which was merged into the 6th Department of the Tokyo Industrial Laboratory in 1928) at the same time, and made a great contribution to the industrialization of ammonia synthesis in Japan. In 1924, he became the third director of the Tokyo Industrial Laboratory, a position he held for 16 years.
