Also known as Lapageria. A perennial plant of the lily family native to Chile, it is the national flower of the country. It is a tall, evergreen, stiff climbing plant with alternate egg-lanceolate leaves, and a small number of flowers hang down from the sides of the upper leaves. The flowers are bell-shaped, about 7 cm long, with six red petals and light-colored spots, and there are also white-flowered cultivars. The Japanese name is Tsubakikazura. ラパゲリアとも。チリ原産のユリ科の多年草で,同国の国花になっている。たけの高い常緑つる性のかたい植物で,卵状披針形の葉を互生し,上部の葉のわきに少数の花がたれ下がる。花は鐘形で長さ約7cm,花被片は6枚で紅色,明色の斑点をもち,園芸品種に白花品などもある。和名ツバキカズラ。
