National credit - public credit

National credit - public credit
Also called public credit. It refers to a credit relationship in which the state acts as either borrower or lender, and is contrasted with private credit, which refers to private financial relationships. In other words, it is a general term for the lending and borrowing of funds or the credit-debt relationship between the state and the private sector, including public bonds (see also the entry on government bonds), state financial enterprises, state debt guarantees, and fiscal investment and loan activities. State credit is fundamentally based on taxes or the right to approve taxes, which is fundamentally different from private credit, which is based on the profits generated when loaned funds are used as corporate capital.
