A dynasty in South India. It arose in the Kanara region on the west coast in the second half of the 3rd century after the decline of the Satavahana dynasty, and later ruled the region with its capital at Banavasi. It participated in the struggles between the various South Indian dynasties and continued to exist until the 13th century, during which time it fostered the distinctive culture of the region.
