A general term for reptiles belonging to the order Cotylosauria. These primitive reptiles lived from the late Paleozoic to the early Mesozoic eras. Some people believe that the amphibian Seymouria also belongs to this order. The skull generally becomes taller and gradually loses its flatness. As there is no opening called a temporal fenestra in the part of the skull behind the eyes, this species is included in the subclass Anapsida along with other orders such as Testudins. The bones behind the parietal bone degenerate, the auditory fissure disappears, and there is only one occipital condyle. The pterygoid bone of the palate develops and teeth appear.
