Senzan

A mountain located in Sumoto City, in the center of Awaji Island, Hyogo Prefecture. It is 448 meters above sea level. It is an isolated granite mountain range, and is also called Awaji Fuji because of its shape. It is part of the Setonaikai National Park. There is a tropical forest of Castanopsis sieboldii and Machilus thunbergii at the summit. It is said to have been named Sakiyama as it was the first mountain to be created in the creation myth of the country, and the islanders have a strong faith in it. At the summit is Senkoji Temple, a famous Shingon Buddhist temple, and many people climb the mountain carrying hair on the 57th day after the death of a deceased person, and pay their respects at the New Year's Eve ceremony. The temple bell is a national important cultural property.

兵庫県淡路島(あわじしま)の中央部、洲本(すもと)市にある山。標高448メートル。孤立した花崗(かこう)岩山地で、山容から淡路富士ともよばれ、瀬戸内海国立公園の一部。山頂にはスダジイ、タブノキなどの暖帯林がある。国生み神話で最初にできた山として先山と名づけられたといい、島民の信仰が厚い。山頂に真言宗の名刹(めいさつ)千光寺があり、五七日忌に遺髪を携えて登る人や越年の法会に参拝する人々が多い。梵鐘は国の重要文化財。
