Western-style painter. Born in Fukuoka City. In 1913 (Taisho 2), he dropped out of the Nagasaki Medical College, Department of Pharmacy, and moved to Tokyo to study at the Hongo Painting Institute. In 1921, he was selected for the Nikaten Exhibition for the first time, and the following year he won the Nikaten Prize, and in the same year he also received a commendation at the Peace Memorial Tokyo Exposition. In 1924, he studied in France, and in 1928 (Showa 3), he returned to Japan and exhibited "Woman with a Mirror" and other works he created in Europe at the 15th Nikaten Exhibition, becoming a member of the association. In 1930, he became a member of the Nikaten Association, but left the same year and founded the Independent Art Association with comrades such as Satomi Katsuzo. He gradually fused the Fauve style with the Nanga tradition to create his own unique style of landscape painting, and after World War II, he established a vivid decorative style in his still life paintings of flowers. At the Modern Japanese Art Exhibition in 1962 (Showa 37), he was awarded a special prize for his posthumous work. His representative works include "East Wind" and "Road to the Alps," among others.
