A hallucinogenic drug widely used by the indigenous people of the Amazon in South America to recreate their mythical world and to enhance the unity of their worldview. The plant itself and the decoction made from it, the vine plants Banisteriopsis caapi and B. inebrians , are called ayahuasca (vine of the soul) in Peruvian Quechua. 南米アマゾンの原住民の間で,彼らの神話的世界を再現させその世界観の統一を増強させるために広く用いられている幻覚薬。キントラノオ科のつる性の植物,バニステリオプシス・カアピBanisteriopsis caapiおよびイネブリアンスB.inebriansの植物自身およびそれからつくられた煎出液をペルーのケチュア語でアヤワスカ(魂のつる)とよぶ。ただし,ペルーのパノ語ではラミrami,ブラジルではカアピcaapi,コロンビアではヤヘyagéとよばれる。
