A hallucinogenic drug widely used by the indigenous people of the Amazon in South America to recreate their mythical world and to enhance the unity of their worldview. The plant itself and the decoction made from it, the vine plants Banisteriopsis caapi and B. inebrians , are called ayahuasca (vine of the soul) in Peruvian Quechua.
