A condition in which pigmentation occurs later in the whole body or in parts of the skin, appearing as black-brown, brown, or purple-gray. In Addison's disease, prominent pigmentation is seen in areas that are physiologically rich in pigment, but in this disease, severe pigmentation is also seen in the palms of the hands, soles of the feet, and oral mucosa. In a disease called Lille melanosis or female facial melanosis, itchy erythematous, desquamating lesions appear on the female face, and later purple-gray pigmentation appears. Redness and small papules may also be present. The cause of the disease is often a skin rash caused by cosmetics.
