National bird - Kokucho

A bird that is considered a symbol of a country. In the United States, Congress selected the bald eagle as the national bird in 1782. In Japan, the pheasant was selected at the 81st regular meeting of the Ornithological Society of Japan in 1947. Since the resolution of the 12th International Bird Conservation Congress held in Tokyo in 1960, each country has officially designated a national bird, and it plays an important role in spreading the spirit of bird conservation. There are various selection criteria, such as the bird that is most familiar to the people and the species that is endemic to that country. In the case of Japan, it is selected because it is familiar from myths and old tales, is full of courage and maternal love, and is an endemic species to Japan. 国のシンボルとされている鳥。米国で1782年，議会がハクトウワシを国鳥に選んだのが始まり。日本では1947年日本鳥類学会第81回例会でキジが選ばれた。1960年に東京で開かれた第12回国際鳥類保護会議の決議から，各国で正式に国鳥を定めるようになり，鳥類保護の精神を普及するため重要な役割を果たしている。選定基準としては，国民に最も親しまれているもの，その国の固有種などさまざま。日本の場合は神話や昔話などで親しまれていること，勇気と母性愛に富むこと，日本固有種であることなどによる。おもな国鳥はインド（インドクジャク），スリランカ（セイロンヤケイ），英国（ロビン），アイルランド（ミヤコドリ），オランダ（ヘラサギ），ベルギー（チョウゲンボウ），ルクセンブルク（キクイタダキ），オーストリア（ツバメ），エストニア（ツバメ），デンマーク（ヒバリ），ノルウェー（ムナジロカワガラス），スウェーデン（クロウタドリ），アイスランド（シロハヤブサ），ベネズエラ（ツリスドリ），グアテマラ（ケツァール），南ア共和国（ハゴロモヅル）。→県鳥
