In the imperial city of Nuremberg, Georg Philipp Harsdörffer (1607-58) and other poets were at the forefront of the highbrow "Société d'études des Herdsmen et des Flowers" (1644). In eastern Silesia, Opitz, Friedrich von Logau (1604-55), Gerhart, Grueffius and other Lutheran poets and playwrights were born, and although it was a remote area, it was seen as a literary center of the era.
