An insect of the family Chrysomelidae in the order Coleoptera. It is distributed from Hokkaido to Kyushu, the Korean Peninsula, China, Indochina, the Amur region, and Siberia. However, its habitat in Japan is thought to be localized. Both larvae and adults feed on docks and knotweeds, but since it particularly prefers docks, it is also called the dock leaf beetle. The back of the adult is shiny blue-blue. The dots on the elytra form a row in some places. The outer corners of the tibiae of the middle and hind legs protrude into a triangular shape and become sharp. Body length is about 5.5 mm. Adults appear from late March and lay eggs on the undersides of dock leaves. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
