Harbor transport industry

The port transport business is a major part of the port industry. The business activities are "polar transport" activities, mainly consisting of loading and unloading, including transport, storage, handling, sorting, classification, packaging, and distribution processing of cargo at wharf terminals. The work itself is simple and straightforward, but it must be carried out extremely immediately and intensively in response to the fluctuations in port transport demand (peak and off-peak demand occurs cyclically with a large gap between them), so the supply structure of the port transport industry lacks a certain system and the business is fragmented.

港湾運送業は港湾産業の主要な部分を占める事業である。業務の内容は，埠頭ターミナルにおける貨物の輸送，保管，荷役，荷さばき，分類，仕分け，包装および流通加工等を含む積卸しを主体とする〈極地輸送〉活動である。作業そのものは単純かつ簡単であるが，港湾運送需要の波動性(需要のピークとオフピークが大きな格差で循環的に発生する)に対応して，きわめて即時的かつ集約的に実施しなければならないので，港湾運送業の供給構造は一定の体系を欠き，事業が細分化されている。
