Metasomatic deposit

A deposit formed by metasomatism. Skarn-type deposits are a typical example. Massive sulfide deposits, stratigraphically bounded copper-bearing iron sulfide deposits (Kieslager-type deposits), copper-bearing sandstones (distributed in the copper belt extending along the border between the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Zambia), and gold-bearing conglomerates (distributed in the Witwatersrand region of South Africa) were previously considered examples of metasomatized deposits, but are now considered to be syngeneic deposits formed at the same time as the surrounding strata. The origin of the Mississippi Valley-type lead-zinc deposits, which are strata-bounded deposits, is still under debate as to whether they are metasomatized or syngeneic.

交代作用により生成した鉱床。スカルン型鉱床がその典型的な例である。層準規制鉱床としてまとめられている塊状硫化物鉱床、層状含銅硫化鉄鉱床（キースラーガー型鉱床）、含銅砂岩（コンゴ民主共和国とザンビアの国境沿い付近に延びる銅帯に分布）、含金礫(れき)岩（南アフリカのウィトワーテルスランド地方に分布）などは交代鉱床の例とされていたが、現在では周囲の地層と同じ時期に生成した同生鉱床と考えられている。層準規制鉱床であるミシシッピ渓谷型鉛・亜鉛鉱床は、その成因に関し現在も交代鉱床か同生鉱床かで議論が行われている。
