Hard chancre

An ulcer that occurs mainly on the vulva in the early stages of syphilis. The initial induration that occurs about three weeks after infection has ulcerated in the center. In most cases, the border is clear, leaving an induration around the periphery. The size is about the size of a grain of rice to the size of a pea. Patients generally do not complain of pain. The pathogenic spirochete Treponema can be identified from secretions.
