Hard chancre

Japanese: 硬性下疳 - こうせいげかん

An ulcer that occurs mainly on the vulva in the early stages of syphilis. The initial induration that occurs about three weeks after infection has ulcerated in the center. In most cases, the border is clear, leaving an induration around the periphery. The size is about the size of a grain of rice to the size of a pea. Patients generally do not complain of pain. The pathogenic spirochete Treponema can be identified from secretions. When it occurs together with soft chancroid, it is called mixed chancroid.

梅毒の初期に主として外陰部に生じる潰瘍(かいよう)。感染後３週間前後に発生する初期硬結の中心部が潰瘍に陥ったもの。多くは境界が明らかで，周辺部に硬結を残す。大きさは米粒大〜エンドウ豆大まで。一般に痛みを訴えない。分泌物からトレポネーマという病原スピロヘータを証明できる。軟性下疳と合併するときは混合下疳と呼ばれる。
