Lectures on history - koushi (English spelling) jiǎng shǐ

Japanese: 講史 - こうし（英語表記）jiǎng shǐ

In China, there were permanent entertainment halls in the entertainment districts of cities such as Bianjing (Kaifeng), the capital of the Northern Song Dynasty (960-1127), and Lin'an (Hangzhou), the capital of the Southern Song Dynasty (1127-1276). Of the storytelling that was told there, short stories, mainly about human interest, were called novels, while long historical stories were called koshi (history lectures). Written accounts of history lectures were called hyowa (commentary stories) or pingwa (story of the three kingdoms), and works such as 'Pingwa' (Records of the Three Kingdoms) and 'Pingwa' (History of the Five Dynasties) are still handed down today. These later developed into long novels such as 'Romance of the Three Kingdoms' during the Ming Dynasty.

中国の北宋(960‐1127)の首都汴京（べんけい）(開封)，南宋(1127‐1276)の首都臨安(杭州)などの都市の盛り場には常設の演芸場があったが，そこで語られた講談のうち，人情噺などを主とする短編を小説といったのに対し，長編の史談を講史と呼んだ。また講史の筆録を評話，あるいは平話といい，現在《三国志平話》《五代史平話》などの作品が伝わっている。これらは後に明代になって《三国演義》などの長編小説へと発展してゆく。
