Japanese: 耕作噺 - こうさくばなし

An agricultural book from the mid-Edo period. Written in 1776 (An'ei 5) by Nakamura Yoshitoki (date of birth and death unknown) of Donomae Village, Tsugaru (Aomori Prefecture), it was later handed down as a copy. It consists of 22 chapters beginning with the opening line, "An old man talks," and is written in the form of a conversation between an old farmer. It describes the climate, topography, and key points of rice-growing techniques in cold regions, and calls for particular attention to early-maturing rice cultivation and irrigation management for stable harvests. 江戸中期の農書。津軽(青森県)堂野前村の中村喜時(生没年不詳)が1776年(安永5)に著し，のち写本として伝わった。〈老人噺けるは〉の書出しで始まる22章からなり，老農談話の形式でまとめられている。寒冷地の風土，気候，稲作技術の要点などを述べ，安定収穫のための早生稲栽培，用水管理にとくに注意を促した。《近世地方経済史料》《日本農書全集》所収。【田中耕司】
