This refers to cargo (excluding baggage) transported by aircraft. The transport of goods such as product samples, news manuscripts, and fresh food by taking advantage of speed has existed since the days of propeller planes, but it was a secondary transport using the cargo bays below passenger aircraft. However, with the introduction of jumbo jets in the 1960s and large cargo planes in the 1970s, increased transport capacity and reduced costs, as well as market demand for the transport of small but high-value-added goods such as IC products and optical equipment that are suitable for air cargo transport, air cargo transport rapidly increased, leading to the birth of dedicated cargo companies in the United States.
