[Died] c. 428 BC. Athenian general in ancient Greece. He played an active role in the first half of the Peloponnesian War. He was one of the generals who reinforced the siege of Samos in 440 BC. He showed outstanding military prowess in Acarnania, Potidaea, and Chalcidice. In 429 BC, he blockaded the port of Corinth with 20 ships, defeated 47 ships of the Peloponnesian League, and further defeated 77 warships led by Cnemus of Sparta, restoring Athenian influence in Acarnania. After returning home (428 BC), he was charged with misappropriating public funds, and probably died at that time.
