A container for storing rice for eating. Wooden bins, jars, barrels, and pails are used, and there are many names for them that combine various names for food with the name of the container used. The most widely used names are those that refer to rice bins, such as ryobitsu and ryomaibitsu, and are used in the Tohoku, Chugoku, Shikoku, and Kyushu regions. Gebutsu and gebitsu in the Kinki region and keshinebitu in the Tohoku and Hokuriku regions are words derived from keshine, meaning millet, suggesting that millet was the staple food of the people in these regions.
