Genpei War

Japanese: 源平争乱 - げんぺいそうらん

A series of conflicts and struggles between the Seiwa Genji and Ise Heishi clans that emerged in the late ancient period. After the Hogen and Heiji Rebellions, the Heishi government was established, and after the Jisho and Juei civil wars, Minamoto no Yoritomo established the Kamakura Shogunate. It was not simply a struggle between two clans, but a nationwide armed conflict (civil war situation) between the development lords that appeared in various provinces, and later local powerful clans.

古代末期に登場する清和(せいわ)源氏と伊勢(いせ)平氏との一連の対立・抗争事件。保元(ほうげん)の乱，平治(へいじ)の乱を経て平氏政権が誕生し，治承(じしょう)・寿永(じゅえい)の内乱後，源頼朝による鎌倉幕府開設に至る。単に２氏の抗争ではなく，諸国に登場する開発領主，のちの地方豪族等による全国的規模の武力抗争（内乱状況）であった。
