The main lesion is avascular necrosis of the lunate bone, one of the eight carpal bones that form the wrist joint, and was reported in 1910 by Robert Kienböck (1871-1953), an Austrian radiologist. As a result of Kienböck's detailed report of the clinical features and X-ray findings, this disease came to be called Kienböck's disease. It is seen in men aged 20 to 40, and is common among workers who heavily use their hands, such as carpenters. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
