An edible mushroom belonging to the family Boletaceae of the order Matsutake and the family Boletaceae. The cap is round and bun-shaped, 5-10 cm in diameter, with a pale pink surface and large wine-colored scales, reminiscent of a dahlia flower. The edge is bordered by torn pieces of membrane. The flesh is pale yellow, turning pale blue when exposed to air. The pore is 1-2 cm thick and yellow with blue spots. The pore is rather large, and the stem is cylindrical, about 7-10 cm long. The spores are oblong (rugby ball shaped), with vertical ridges, and are 20-24 micrometers by 8-12 micrometers. It was originally thought to be a species unique to Japan, but was later found to be distributed in Southeast Asia and southeastern North America. It grows in evergreen broad-leaved forests and mixed forests.
