History

A poetry magazine. First published in May 1935 (Showa 10), published by Rekiteisha. The original members were eight people: Henmi Yukichi, Kusano Shinpei, Okazaki Seiichiro, Ogata Kamenosuke, Hijikata Sadakazu, Takahashi Shinkichi, Hishiyama Shuzo, and Nakahara Chuya. Later, Yamanoguchi Baku, Ozaki Kihachi, and others joined, and by 1945, 26 issues had been published. After World War II, it was relaunched in July 1947 (Showa 22), with Kusano Shinpei at the center of publication. The group has grown to over ten times its size since its founding, and has produced many unique poets, including Aida Tsunao, Kanai Choku, So Sakon, Shono Kokichi, Yamamoto Taro, Yoshihara Sachiko, and others. It is not a group that gathers together for one ideology, but rather, as Tomi Hayahiko puts it, "each member should adopt their own method based on their own beliefs." The group continues to be active in poetry, with the establishment of the Rekitei Seminar, the Fujimura Memorial Rekitei Prize, and the Rekitei Newcomer Prize.
