[Egg breeding]
A breed for laying eggs, it has a slim body, agile movements, early maturity, and high production. A representative breed that has lost broodiness in order to increase egg production is the White Leghorn (illustration), which originated in Italy but was bred in the United States and the United Kingdom. Most of the chickens have a single comb, and females weigh 1.6 to 2.0 kg and lay about 280 white eggs of about 56 g each per year.
