(1) It means "love of beauty." According to Augustine, true beauty is knowledge, and "love of beauty" is, so to speak, the sister of "love of knowledge" (philosophia). (2) A collection of prose writings by Greek Orthodox monks. The Greek title means, in this case, "Love of God's Goodness and Beauty." It was compiled and published in 1782 by Bishops Makarios and Nikodimos Hagioritis of Corinth. Its contents consist of excerpts from prose writings by the Church Fathers and the hesychasts themselves, who had been seen as the forerunners of hesychasm in monasteries since the 11th and 12th centuries, and its theme is inner asceticism.
