A war between the Kingdom of Nepal (founded in 1769) and the British East India Company from 1814 to 1816. Also known as the Nepalese War. Gurkha (properly Gorkha) is the common name for the political force that established the present Kingdom of Nepal. After the founding of the country, the Nepalese dynasty expanded into areas beyond present-day Nepal, and clashed with Britain, which was also trying to expand into this region. Britain, which won the war, stripped the Kingdom of Nepal of its territory and diplomatic rights and made it a protectorate. The Gurkhas became an important fighting force in the British Indian Army as "Gurkha soldiers." → Related articles Foreign Legion | Gurkha | Nepal Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
