A Russian and Soviet poet. Born into a family of Separatist peasants. At the age of 16, he frequented a retreat and wrote lyrics for Separatist religious songs. Although he despised intellectuals, he became one himself, deifying the peasantry and dreaming of a paradise for Russian peasants living a godly life. As a member of the most extreme Symbolist movement, he was associated with Gippius, wife of Merezhkovsky, and completely transformed the traditional, all-out realistic style of rural poetry with mystical and religious content. His proposal of a new peasant poetry influenced the early Yesenin. His poetry collections include "All the Bells of the Pine Trees" (1912), which praises the religiousized nature, "True Stories of the Forest" (1913), and "The Fourth Rome" (1922).

ロシア，ソ連邦の詩人。分離派教徒の農民の出身。16歳で隠舎に出入りし分離派教徒の宗教歌などを作詞。知識人を軽蔑しながらも彼自身知識人となり，農民を神格化し，神ながらの道を生きているロシア農民の楽園を夢想。シンボリズムの最右翼としてメレシコフスキー夫人のギッピウスとつながり，従来の写実一辺倒の農村詩のあり方を，神秘的･宗教的内容で一変させた。この新農民詩の提唱は初期のエセーニンに影響を与えた。詩集には宗教化された自然を賛美した《松の木の全鐘音》(1912)や《森の実話》(1913)，《第4のローマ》(1922)などがある。
