Born: December 31, 1845 in Zaeczar [Died] December 10, 1926. Belgrade. Serbian and Yugoslav politician. After serving in the war against the Ottoman Empire from 1876 to 1878, he joined the Serbian parliament in 1878, and in 1882 organized the Radical Party, becoming its leader. He was often at odds with King Milan (he was charged with conspiracy and went into exile from 1883 to 1889 and from 1899 to 1903), and dreamed of building a Greater Serbia by pursuing a policy of rapprochement with Russia. In the formation of a unified South Slavic state, he played a major role in creating a centralized system centered on Serbia, and attended the Paris Peace Conference as plenipotentiary to have the new state recognized. During the Serbian period, he served as Prime Minister for a total of 22 years (1891-92, 1905, 06-08, 09-11, 12-18, 21-26) and Foreign Minister for 17 years, earning him the nickname "Old Fox of the Balkans."
