Grandes écoles (English spelling)

It is a general term for the technical colleges that make up France's higher education institutions, along with the university (université) and the technical college (Institut universitaire de technologie (IUT)). It was established with the aim of nurturing elites in various fields by providing advanced technical education in a wide range of fields, including engineering, agriculture, veterinary medicine, education, paleography, administration, politics, economics, management, commerce, art, crafts, architecture, music, theater, film, journalism, taxation, military, and police.
