Japanese: クラリファイヤー（英語表記）clarifier

Also called a clarifier. A chemical device used for solid-liquid separation. In a broad sense, it can include filters and rotating disk clarifiers, and can also refer to centrifugal settlers such as decanters. This device disperses and mixes fine particulate matter that causes turbidity in large amounts of liquid such as cleaning water, industrial wastewater, and water and sewage, settles it, separates and removes it as thick sludge, and continuously recovers the supernatant liquid that does not contain particles. It utilizes the settling phenomenon of particles dispersed in the liquid, and in many cases, a coagulant is added to the suspension as a pretreatment to promote settling, and flocs are created by stirring, which then coagulates and settles.

清澄器ともいう。固液分離に用いられる化学装置。広義にはろ過器や回転円板型清澄器などを含むことがあり，デカンターなどの遠心沈降機を意味する場合もある。洗浄水や工場排水，上下水など大量の液体中に分散混合し濁りの原因となる微小粒状物質を沈降させ，濃厚汚泥として分離除去するとともに，粒子を含まない上澄み液を連続的に回収する装置である。液中に分散する粒子の沈降現象を利用しており，沈降を促進する前処理として懸濁液に凝集剤を添加してかきまぜフロックをつくり凝集沈降させる場合が多い。
