He is the most important scholar and theologian of the Twelver Shiite sect of Islam. He stayed in Baghdad for 20 years and collected a great deal of information about the Twelve Imams, leaving behind a vast book called Uṣūl al-kāfī (The Source of Sufficiency). This book is considered one of the foundations of the faith of the Twelver Shiite sect.
