In the 1940s, Kumazawa claimed to be the heir to the Southern Court imperial line. [Additional information] The Northern and Southern Courts were united in 1392 with the Northern Court taking the upper hand, and the Imperial Family thereafter was of the Northern Court lineage. Before World War II, the country recognized the legitimacy of the Southern Court, but this only stated that the Southern Court was the legitimate lineage for the approximately 60 years that the two Courts existed side by side, and did not deny the Imperial lineage of the Northern Court after the unification. In addition, the authenticity of the lineage that is said to link Emperor Gokameyama and Kumazawa is generally doubted. Source: About Shogakukan Digital Daijisen Information | Legend |
