Yellow Bell Tone

Japanese: 黄鐘調 - おうしきじょう
Yellow Bell Tone
〘Noun〙 (also "Oushikicho")① One of the six modes of gagaku. A mode with the sound of the Yellow Bell (I) as the main note, i.e. the Miya note. Oushiki. ※Engi 13th Year Teishiin Utaawase (913) "The music is in the Yellow Bell mode, and they play a song called Isekai."② = Oushiki (Yellow Bell)①※Genji (around 1001-14) Hashihime "I studied it in a Waushiki style, and although it is not the usual way of playing, it somehow feels unfamiliar to my ears."[Additional notes] There are various theories about the pronunciation, especially regarding the clearness and voicedness of the third and fifth sounds, but we follow the "Waushikidenu, Choji voiced" that appears in "Rakukaroku-28, Kyokukyoku Kunpo". "Kyokumonsho-6" also states "According to one theory, it is called Ofucho," and it is known that the two forms coexisted in the late Heian period.
