〘Noun〙 (guinea) (named after the fact that it was made from gold from Guinea, Africa) A gold coin minted in Britain for trade with Africa from 1663 to 1813. It was originally priced at 20-22 shillings, but was fixed at 21 shillings from 1717. It is no longer in use. *Seikoku Risshihen (1870-71) (translated by Nakamura Masanao) 9 "There was only one guinea ( a name for silver coin) in my pocket."

〘名〙 (guinea) (アフリカのギニア産の金でつくられたところからいう) 一六六三年から一八一三年まで、アフリカ貿易のために英国で鋳造された金貨。はじめ二〇~二二シリングの価格であったが、一七一七年以降二一シリングに一定。現在では用いられない。※西国立志編(1870‐71)〈中村正直訳〉九「衣袋(ポケット)中にただ一箇の奇尼(ギニー)(銀銭の名)あるのみ」
