Peacock - Peacock

Japanese: クジャク(孔雀) - クジャク
Peacock - Peacock
A bird of the pheasant family. The wingspan of males is 50cm, while that of females is about 45cm. The feathers on the upper tail coverts of males grow long and at first glance look like tail feathers. There are two types of peafowl: the green peacock, found in southern China, Malaysia, Java, etc., and the Indian peafowl, found in India. The former has blue bases on the neck feathers with golden-green edges and a brush-tip-like crest on the head. The latter has a shiny blue neck-thorax and a fan-shaped crest. The females of both species have brown backs and are inconspicuous. They live in dense forests and are famous for displaying, with males erecting and spreading the feathers on their upper tail coverts.
