Kinreizuka Tomb - Kinreizuka Tomb

This keyhole-shaped tumulus is located on alluvial plain in Nagasuka, Kisarazu, Chiba Prefecture. It belongs to the latter half of the Late Kofun period. An investigation was carried out by Waseda University in 1950. Only most of the rear circular mound and part of the front circular mound remain, but the original form was built in three tiers, measuring 95 meters in length, 55 meters in diameter, and 72 meters in width at the front. In the rear circular mound there is a side-less horizontal-hole type stone chamber made of cut tuff stone, and approximately in the center there is a combination box-shaped stone sarcophagus made of chlorite schist. The grave goods include five golden bells, which caused the name of this tumulus to be changed from Futagozuka to Kinreizuka, as well as mirrors, copper pots, large swords, knives, iron arrowheads, jewels, gold and silver threaded gold sashes, gilt bronze ornamental metal fittings, ram-attached helmets, gilt bronze horse equipment, horse bells, sueki ware, hajiki ware, and many more. The large swords include those with ring heads, keitou heads, round heads, kabutchi heads, bird necks, and square heads. The grave goods are displayed separately at the Prefectural Kazusa Museum and the Kinreizuka Relics Preservation Museum, located on the hillside of Odayama Park in Kisarazu City.
