A style of Chinese classical poetry, in contrast to ancient poetry or ancient style poetry. It is also called kintai poetry. Kintai and kintai refer to modern or contemporary styles of poetry, which were completed later than the ancient style in the early Tang dynasty and were designated by the Tang dynasty. It is characterized by a strict and well-balanced rhyme based on the contrast of rhythm. Depending on the number of lines in a poem, there are four-line jeku, eight-line regulated shi, and twelve or more line kairyu or choryu. Jueku and regulated shi have five, six, or seven lines, while kairyu has five lines. In ancient China, the Chinese were not aware of the four tones of rhythm, so they did not pay any attention to the combination of rhythm in poetry. However, from the middle of the Six Dynasties, the existence of the four tones and the important meaning of the combination of the four tones in rhythm became known, and poets competed to study the relationship between the four tones and rhythm.
