Ota [village] - Ota

Japanese: 大田[村] - おおた

A village in Nishikunisaki County in northern Oita Prefecture. Population 2,040 (1995). Located in the center of the Kunisaki Peninsula, it is a mountain village with most of the village area covered by forests and fields, and the main activity is agriculture. In addition to rice cultivation, livestock farming and greenhouse horticulture are also carried out, and in recent years shiitake mushroom cultivation has become popular. The village's population has been declining, and since 1970 it has been designated as a depopulated area under the Depopulated Areas Development Act. There are many cultural properties of Rokugo Manzan within the village, and the Tahara family's five-story pagoda, Ishimaru's Kunisaki pagoda, and Zaizen family's Kunisaki pagoda are designated as important cultural properties. Shirahige Shrine is known for its Doburoku Festival.

大分県北部，西国東（にしくにさき）郡の村。人口2040(1995)。国東半島の中央部に位置し，村域の大半を山林，原野が占める山村で，農業を主とする。米作のほか，畜産や施設園芸などが行われ，近年はシイタケ栽培が盛ん。村の人口は減少を続け，1970年以来過疎地域振興法の指定地となっている。村内には六郷満山の文化財が多く，田原家五重塔，石丸の国東塔，財前家国東塔は重要文化財に指定されている。白鬚神社はどぶろく祭で知られる。
