Kim Ki-jin

1903‐1985
Korean literary figure. Born in North Chungcheong Province. Active in essays, poetry, criticism, and novels. After graduating from Pai Chai High School, he came to Japan in 1920 and studied at Rikkyo University Preparatory School. During his stay in Japan, he was awakened to a class perspective through Aso Hisashi and others. He returned to Korea in 1923 and became a member of Hakucho magazine from issue 3. From September to October of the same year, he serialized "The Globalization of the Klarte Movement" in Kaibyaku, which is said to have marked the launch of Korean proletarian literature. He was put on trial during the Korean War for collaborating with Japan in the final days of the Japanese Empire, but narrowly escaped death.

朝鮮の文学者。忠清北道生れ。エッセー，詩，評論，小説の各分野で活躍。培材高等普通学校を経て1920年渡日，立教大学予科に学ぶ。滞日中，麻生久らを通じて階級的視点にめざめていく。23年帰国し3号から《白潮》同人。同年9～10月《開闢（かいびやく）》に〈クラルテ運動の世界化〉を連載，これをもって朝鮮のプロレタリア文学が発足したとされる。日帝末期に対日協力したかどで，朝鮮戦争中にいわゆる人民裁判にかけられ九死に一生を得る。
