Japanese: 環太平洋地帯 - かんたいへいようちたい

The area around the edge of the Pacific Ocean. It is also known as the Pacific Ring of Fire and Earthquakes, and is one of the most important areas of geological activity on Earth. While the Alps and Himalayas in the latitudinal direction are typical intercontinental tectonic zones, this area is known as an area of tectonic activity between the Pacific Ocean and the surrounding continents. Currently, most of the active areas are island arcs or continental arc systems. The main ones are Southern Alaska and the Aleuts, Kamchatka and the Kuril Islands, Eastern Japan, Izu and the Mariana Islands, Western Japan (Ryukyu), the Philippines, Indonesia, Melanesia, Tonga and the North Island of New Zealand, West Antarctica and Scotia, the Andes, and Central America.

太平洋の周縁をめぐる地帯。環太平洋火山帯･地震帯の名でも知られるように，地球上の重要な地学的変動地帯である。緯度方向のアルプス･ヒマラヤ地帯が大陸間の代表的な変動地帯であるのに対し，本地帯は太平洋と周縁大陸間の変動地帯として知られている。　現在活動的な部分は大部分が島弧ないし陸弧系からなる。その主なものは，アラスカ南部･アレウト，カムチャツカ･千島，東日本，伊豆･マリアナ，西日本(琉球)，フィリピン，インドネシア，メラネシア，トンガ･ニュージーランド北島，西南極地方･スコシア，アンデス，中央アメリカである。
