He was one of the top disciples of Wang Chongyang, the founder of Quanzhen Sect, an innovative Taoist sect in the Jin Dynasty of China. He is known by the title of Taoist priest, Changchun Zhenren. In 1220, he set out at the age of 70 in response to an invitation from Genghis Khan, who was on a western expedition, and in 1222, he met with Khan in what is now northern Afghanistan. When Khan asked him if there was an elixir of longevity, he replied, "There is a way of hygiene, but there is no elixir of longevity." When he and Khan parted ways, he was given the privilege of exempting Taoist priests from paying taxes.

中国，金代の革新的道教教団である全真教の開祖王重陽の高弟の一人。道士としての称号〈長春真人〉で知られる。西征中のチンギス･ハーンが使者を遣わして招いたのに応じて70歳以上の身で1220年出発，22年，今のアフガニスタン北部でハーンに謁見した。ハーンが〈長生の薬はあるか〉と問うたのに対して，〈衛生の道はあるが，長生の薬はない〉と答えた。ハーンとの別れに当たって，彼は道士に対する賦税免除の特権を与えられた。
