Old Asian languages ​​- Kyuuajiashogo

A general term for the languages ​​spoken in North Asia by ethnic minorities other than Uralic and Altaic. The term "old" is based on the assumption that these ethnic groups have lived in North Asia longer than the Uralic and Altaic peoples. Some of these languages ​​form small language families (see (4) and (5) below), while others are systematically isolated ((1) to (3)). Thus, these languages ​​as a whole do not form a single systematic unit. They are structurally diverse, but share common features such as being agglutinative, expressing case relations with suffixes, and having contrast between front and back in velar sounds.

(1) Ket. It has about 670 speakers in the Yenisei River basin. It has features not seen in other Old Asian languages, such as phonemic contrasts in tone and grammatical gender distinctions in verbs and adjectives rather than in nouns. Other extinct related languages ​​include Alin, Asan, and Kot. It is also called Yenisei-Ostyak, but is distinct from the Finno-Ugric Ostyak.

(3) Yukaghir: It is spoken in the Sakha Republic and Magadan Oblast of the Russian Federation by two groups: the Tundra Yukaghirs who live in the middle and lower reaches of the Indigirka River, and the Kolyma Yukaghirs who live along the Kolkodon and Yasathnaya Rivers, tributaries of the Kolyma River. The total number of speakers in both groups is less than 300.

(4) Chukchi-Kamchatkan languages. Found in Northeast Asia north of the Kamchatka Peninsula, they consist of Chukchi, Kelek, Alyutr, Koryak, and Kamchadal. Kamchadal is the most closely related language. The Chukchi self-proclaimed Luorabetlan has sometimes been used as the name of this language family, as well as the Chukchi language.

(5) Eskimo-Aleut. Distributed not only in Asia (Chukotka Peninsula) but also in Alaska, far north Canada, and Greenland, but most of the language area is in the northern part of the American continent. It consists of five or six languages ​​collectively known as Eskimo and Aleut.

The terms "Far North languages" and "Palaeo-Siberian languages" are also used synonymously with "Palaeo-Asiatic languages." However, the latter "Palaeo-Siberian languages" sometimes does not include (5).

北アジアで話される諸言語のうち、ウラル語、アルタイ語系以外の少数民族の言語の総称。「旧」という形容は、これら諸民族がウラルおよびアルタイ系民族よりも古くから北アジアに住んでいたとの推定に基づく。そのうちいくつかの言語は互いに小語族（下記(4)(5)）を形成するが、他は系統的に孤立している（(1)～(3)）。したがってこれら諸言語が全体として系統的に単一のまとまりをなすものではない。構造的にも多様であるが、ほぼ共通する特徴をあげれば、膠着(こうちゃく)的であること、格関係が接尾辞で表現されること、軟口蓋(なんこうがい)音に前後の対立があることなどである。

(1)ケット語。エニセイ川流域に約670人の話し手がいる。他の旧アジア諸言語にみられぬ特徴として、音調が音素的対立をなし、文法性の区別が名詞でなく動詞や形容詞に現れる。すでに消滅した同系の言語にアリン語、アサン語、コット語がある。エニセイ・オスチャーク語ともよばれるが、フィン・ウゴル語族のオスチャーク語とは別である。

(2)ギリヤーク語。ニブヒ語の項参照。

(3)ユカギール語。ロシア連邦サハ共和国とマガダン州にまたがり、インディギルカ川中流から下流に住むツンドラ・ユカギール、コリマ川支流のコルコドン川やヤサチナヤ川に住むコリマ・ユカギールの2群によって話される。言語人口は両群あわせて300人たらず。

(4)チュクチ・カムチャツカ語族。カムチャツカ半島以北の東北アジアに分布し、チュクチ語、ケレック語、アリュートル語、コリヤーク語、カムチャダール語からなる。親近性においてカムチャダール語は他の4言語から隔たりがある。チュクチの自称ルオラベトランがチュクチ語のみならず、この語族の名称として用いられたこともある。

(5)エスキモー・アレウト語族。アジア（チュクチ半島）のみならずアラスカ、カナダ極北、グリーンランドにも分布し、むしろ語域の大部分はアメリカ大陸北辺にある。エスキモー語の名で総称される5ないし6言語とアリュート（アレウト）語からなる。

　旧アジア諸語と同義的に極北諸語とか旧シベリア諸語の名称も用いられる。ただし、後者の旧シベリア諸語には(5)を含めないこともある。
